For years, I have had a huge love for entertaining. While throwing super extravagant parties with no budget and endless options sounds great in theory, the reality is that it’s not an option for me. I would like to think that I have somewhat mastered the art of making a little seem like a lot. Finding a continuity in your theme and color, can really take any party from “cheap” to chic.
I have always felt strongly that if you start with a color palette and theme that works for you and your event space, that the rest will come together much easier than having a million different ideas that require lots of work, props, dishes and eventually money. Bridal showers and baby showers are some of my favorite celebrations. You really get a chance to put the spotlight on your friends and loved ones to make them feel special. I think one of the most important aspects of any shower, is to really emphasize personal details.
Brides LOVE to see their monograms! It just sort of brings it all to reality. Whether using a single initial or the full monogram, you can incorporate this throughout the shower with your invitations, decor, and serveware.
A color palette of bright yellow and subtle gray, big brilliant sunflowers and lots of beautiful glassware was the perfect combination for a cheery brunch shower some friends and I recently hosted. The food was served on simple white and silver platters (similar to this and this platter from Target) and it all flowed so well with the decor of the hostess’s home. Yellow cocktail napkins were given a personal touch with an initial stamp with pretty silver ink. I found a great yellow and gray digital scrapbook paper combination on Etsy, which was used to create the invitations, menu cards and drink tags with a little help of Word, a paper cutter, and a 1 1/2″ circular punch.
Sticking to only one type of flower cut back on time with the flower arranging, but again helped create a continuous flow of theme and decor. Glass cylindrical vases were used inside and on the drink table, while an outdoor flower pant (similar to this from Target) helped pull in the outdoor elements with the seating outside. Clear glass candle holders (similar to these from Target) helped provide a little ambiance with white pillar candles throughout the house. The most convenient part of the shower was that we chose to keep it simple, which allowed us to use so much of what we all already had on hand. Any celebration surrounding weddings is always so much fun to be a part of, but I have to say that my favorite is getting to play host for a bridal shower, but you don’t have to break the bank to have a simple and elegant party with lots of personal touches that really make your guest of honor feel special. The key to easy entertaining, though, are staple pieces such as glassware and simple dishes, which can all be found at a reasonable price at Target.

Nothing goes further in entertaining than plain white dishes, which is why I think they are a must-have staple in your party pantry. These Threshold White Round Rimmed Dishes will certainly come in handy for any get together.
