Blackberry Cobbler

blackberry cobbler Hunter Bear and I are at the beach for a few days on a Mommy/Son trip with some of our best friends! Since Daddy is stuck at home working (and is soooooo lonely with all the peace and quiet), I made sure to fill his belly and our fridge full of some of his favorite foods.  His all-time favorite dessert is blackberry cobbler and with all the berries in full season, it seemed only right to make this for him.

I was up super early last Saturday morning working on recipes, so he not only got his favorite dessert out of the session to eat on for a few days, but he got it first thing in the morning for breakfast!  The thing about cobbler is that it lends itself to just about any fruit you want to make it with.  Cherry cobbler, peach cobbler, apple cobbler, banana cobbler…..okay, maybe not bananas, maple pecan cobber….OH, YEAH….the options are endless! What I love most about cobbler (besides the deliciousness of it, of course) is that it is pretty easy to make.  Now, you can go get all fancy with yours if you like, but I like to keep mine simple and the fact is, even at it’s simplest, it’s still so good!

I would be remiss not to mention that it is a cardinal sin to have cobbler without vanilla ice cream! Blackberry Cobbler

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 40 minutes

Total Time: 45 minutes

Yield: 8-10

Blackberry Cobbler

This basic cobbler recipe can be made with any fruit of choice. Although simple in ingredients, it is absolutely delicious and best served warm with vanilla ice cream!


  • 1 stick butter, melted
  • 1 cup self rising flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 4 cups blackberries, chopped


  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Melt butter is glass baking dish in oven. Remove from oven. In a large bowl, stir together flour and sugar. Add milk and stir. Add vanilla and stir. Pour mixture into baking dish over butter. Add blackberries to mixture. Do not stir.
  2. Cook for 40 minutes or until mixture is golden brown.

    I love blackberry cobbler! As a child we would go, and still do, to Monteagle, TN for the summers. Blackberry picking was a must. I remember Aunt Debbie baking the best cobbler with cold ice cream. We would sit on her screened in porch and devour it. My favorite is the hot melting the ice cream!
    Believe it or not, my girls and I are going picking this morning. Can’t wait to try your recipe tonight!

    One of my all time favorites is Apple Pie A-la-mode … You could get em’ at Sonic ( Formally Stars) Dr. Inn !!! We loved it warm from the oven with a scoop of vanilla Ice Cream, or Pecan pie with Vanilla Ice Cream is our choice of deserts these days… even just a bowl of Ice Cream … makes a Delicious Moment around our house, as our Dog loves Ice Cream…. she always begs for some as soon as it comes out of the freezer she knows before it’s dished up !!!! We have to give her a spoonful first !!!! It’s always a fun time when we eat deserts around here with our dog !!!!

  5. My mom made an eclair cake when we were growing up that was definitely a family favorite! She would always make a double batch of the chocolate icing that went on top. We still love it! So good!
