I love smoothies and I love wine, but wine + smoothie = I’m not sure……until I saw this super cool illustrated recipe from They Draw & Cook led by brother/sister team Nate Padavick & Salli Swindell. I love red wine and can pretty much drink it at any temperature, but at 95 degrees outside in these dog days of summer, I decided to put my skepticism aside and give this thing a shot. My findings on the equation – YUM!!!!!! Not only are there magical antioxidant powers in red wine, but combine them with the magical antioxidant powers of blueberries and raspberries and you have a mega drink that just might give you super powers. For my little superhero all it takes is a pair of Finn McMissile underwear and Spiderman socks, but we
us mortals may need a little more help. (There you go, Mom….fixed)
I first became familiar with They Draw & Cook when I was writing the Mod Mom column for Nashville Lifestyles a couple of years ago. Thinking it was a cookbook for children, I was more than surprised to find out it was so much more! Nate & Salli launched They Draw & Cook in 2010 with 8 illustrated recipes from friends and family and now have over 2,500 illustrated recipes from around the world and a beautiful cookbook that is not only great to read, but truly has great recipes that are fun for the whole family.
So you wanna win your very own copy of their cookbook?!?!?!?!? Here’s what you’ve gotta do. Leave a comment on this post letting me know your favorite go-to wine or smoothie until midnight Sunday, August 19th. The winner will be a random number pick (most likely by a blue-eyed boy) and will be announced on Monday, August 20th! If you don’t happen to win, you can still purchase this gorgeous book from Amazon.
In addition, but not required to win, please be a friend and consider doing the following:
1) Go to the TDAC Facebook page and “Like” them.
2) “Like” ME on the High Heels to Hot Wheels Facebook page.
3) AND if you are an artist go ahead and submit a recipe to They Draw & Cook.
Adapted from They Draw & Cook
- 1 1/2 cups red wine (i.e. zinfandel or cabernet)
- 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
- 1 1/2 cup frozen raspberries
- 1 cup frozen blueberries
- Add ingredients in a mixer and blend until smooth. Pour into a wine glass and garnish with fruit on a skewer.
I used a frozen mixed berry blend that also contained black berries and strawberries. I also added a small amount of local honey to cut the tartness of the berries.
